The Punjab government executed a major reshuffle of civil administration and police leadership in the Rawalpindi region on Saturday, transferring several senior bureaucrats and police officers and replacing them with new appointees. Official notifications issued by the Punjab Chief Secretary confirmed the transfers of Commissioner Rawalpindi Aamir Khattak, Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Shehryar Shirazi, and Assistant Commissioner (Saddar) Hakim Khan. All four have been directed to report to the Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD), Punjab.
Police Leadership Changes
City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Khalid Mehmood Hamdani has also been transferred and instructed to report to the Central Police Office (CPO) in Lahore. The government appointed Captain (retired) Nadeem Nasir, previously serving as Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad, as the new Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi. In the police department, DIG Operations of the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera, has been posted as the new City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi.
Impact on Administration
The transfers are part of a routine administrative shakeup, according to sources, but come amid ongoing security and development challenges in the Rawalpindi region. Commissioner Aamir Khattak had been in office for over a year, while Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema had served since early 2023. The new DC, Captain (retired) Nadeem Nasir, brings experience from his tenure in Faisalabad, while DIG Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera's counter-terrorism background is expected to bolster policing in the garrison city.
