Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the government is undertaking historic measures to address Karachi's transportation needs. He stated that 500 modern electric buses, along with double-decker buses, will soon be operational on the city's roads.
Budget Allocation for Karachi's Development
In a statement, Memon emphasized that the development and prosperity of Karachi, along with the provision of basic amenities to its residents, remain top priorities for the Sindh government. He revealed that more than Rs100 billion has been allocated for Karachi in the 2026-27 budget. These funds will be utilized for water supply, drainage systems, construction and rehabilitation of roads, and other public infrastructure and civic facilities.
Focus on Modern Public Transport
Memon highlighted that one of the biggest needs of Karachi's residents is access to modern, safe, and dignified public transport. He assured that the government is fully aware of this requirement and is taking concrete steps to fulfill it. The introduction of electric and double-decker buses is part of a broader strategy to improve urban mobility.
Employment Opportunities as Economic Pillar
The senior minister also noted that creating new employment opportunities is a key pillar of the Sindh government's economic strategy. He did not provide specific details on job creation linked to the bus deployment but reiterated the government's commitment to boosting the economy through infrastructure projects.
