A tragic incident in Peshawar's Saidabad neighborhood on Pajjgi Road claimed the life of a seven-year-old girl and left two other children injured when a hand grenade they mistook for a toy exploded. The victims were playing outside their home when one of them picked up the grenade, triggering a powerful blast that shook the area and caused panic among residents.
Victims Identified
The deceased has been identified as Insha, aged 7. The injured children are Rehan, 5, and Ruqaiya, 6. One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition. According to police, the children belong to Ajmal, a local scrap businessman.
Police Response and Investigation
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hamid Ehsan Waraich visited the scene. The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) confirmed the explosion was caused by a hand grenade. Initially, police received reports of a cylinder blast, but upon arrival, they found evidence of a grenade explosion.
"Investigations are underway from all angles to determine how the hand grenade came into the possession of the children," police stated. A case has been registered under the Explosive Substances Act and other relevant sections. Police are examining CCTV footage and collecting evidence from the area.
Community Shock
The incident has sent shockwaves through the locality, with residents expressing concern over the presence of unexploded ordnance in residential areas. The injured children have been shifted to a hospital for treatment.
