The education authorities in Punjab have decided to expand the program offering free MD CAT preparation facilities to students in government colleges. In response to the growing number of students, a proposal has been submitted to establish six new preparation centres across the province.
New Centres in Divisional Headquarters
Under the proposed project, additional centres will be set up in major divisional headquarters to ensure maximum students can benefit from this facility. The Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) Colleges has sent a formal proposal to the Higher Education Department for the establishment of these new centres.
According to officials, MD CAT preparation facilities were provided in 54 centres across Punjab last year. The cost of arranging one centre is estimated at approximately Rs100,000. A regular schedule will be issued after the final approval from the Higher Education Department.
Background and Impact
The expansion aims to accommodate the increasing number of students seeking free coaching for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MD CAT). By adding centres in divisional headquarters, the authorities hope to reduce travel distances for students and provide equitable access to quality preparation resources.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to support aspiring medical students from government colleges, many of whom lack access to expensive private coaching. The program has been well-received, with high demand leading to the need for additional centres.
