Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Motasim Billah Shah has issued a strict 5-day deadline for the completion of desilting and cleaning of drainage channels across the city, taking strong notice of slow progress on monsoon preparedness works. During an emergency inspection of urban nullahs, stormwater drains, and vulnerable flood-prone points across Kohat, the Commissioner expressed serious dissatisfaction over delays in ongoing cleanliness and rehabilitation efforts. The Commissioner was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Kohat Muhammad Nawaz Wazir, Chief Executive Officer of WSSC Kohat Saad Qureshi, and senior officials from the Irrigation Department.
Emergency Inspection Reveals Slow Progress
Officials briefed the Commissioner on ongoing monsoon preparedness measures and development activities. However, he expressed strong displeasure over sluggish progress at multiple sites, warning that negligence in safeguarding public lives and property would not be tolerated. Shah directed all concerned departments to complete desilting, clearance of stormwater passages, and activation of the drainage system on an emergency basis within five days, ensuring that urban flooding risks are minimized ahead of heavy monsoon rains. He warned that failure to meet the deadline would result in strict departmental and legal action against the responsible officials.
Daily Monitoring and Coordination
The Commissioner added that the district administration would monitor monsoon preparedness on a daily basis and ensure better coordination among all departments to prevent any disruption during rainfall. Officials said the directive aims to ensure that all available resources are utilized effectively so that drainage systems are fully functional before the onset of monsoon showers.
