KP Proposes Rs9.5 Billion for Model Schools in Budget

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has proposed allocating Rs9.5 billion in its 2026-27 budget for the establishment of model schools across the province. According to budget documents, the initiative aims to provide free, high-quality education based on the standards of leading international educational institutions.

Upgrading Existing Schools

Under the plan, 72 existing schools will be upgraded into model schools. The documents reveal that the project will cover 31 boys' schools and 31 girls' schools. These institutions will be equipped with modern facilities, including advanced IT and science laboratories, swimming pools and other amenities designed to meet international standards.

Free Education and Stipends

Students from grades six to 12 studying in these model schools will receive free boarding, meals, education, textbooks and stipends. Under the proposed scheme, each model school will enrol 50 talented and academically outstanding students.

Project Timeline

The project is expected to commence in July 2026 and is scheduled for completion by September 2027. Officials from the Education Department said the programme has been included in the provincial budget as a major initiative aimed at strengthening and modernising the education sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
