The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast rainfall across most districts of the province over the next two days and directed local administrations to remain on alert to deal with any weather-related emergencies.
Rain Expected in Major Cities and Surrounding Areas
According to a PDMA spokesperson, rain is expected in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab and Sargodha. Showers are also likely in Sahiwal, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot and surrounding areas.
Southern Punjab Also in the Forecast
The authority said rainfall is also expected in Okara, Kasur, Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.
Officials on Alert as Rivers May Swell
PDMA Director General Umar Javed said commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province had been placed on alert on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. He warned that the expected rainfall could increase water flows in rivers and seasonal streams.
Safety Precautions Issued for Residents and Tourists
He advised residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid open spaces during lightning, and take precautions against strong winds and dust storms. Tourists travelling to northern areas were also urged to exercise caution in view of the forecast weather conditions.
