Ukrainian officials on Wednesday reported a new locust outbreak, this time in the southern Kherson region. The Ukrainian state service on food safety and consumer protection said last month that outbreaks of locust development had been detected in Ukraine’s eastern Dnipropetrovsk region.
Special Regime Implemented
Ukraine has introduced a “special regime” in the affected area of around 155 hectares. This measure aims to control the spread of locusts and mitigate damage to crops.
Historical Context
A massive locust invasion threatened sunflower and other crops in Ukraine’s southern regions in 2025. The current outbreak in Kherson raises concerns about agricultural impact in the region.
