Pakistan Iran Pledge to Boost Agricultural Trade Cooperation

Pakistan and Iran have committed to strengthening cooperation in agriculture, livestock, food security, and trade facilitation following a high-level meeting in Islamabad. The discussions between Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain and Iran’s Minister of Agriculture Gholamreza Nouri Ghezeljeh focused on translating existing agreements into tangible benefits for farmers, traders, and consumers in both countries.

Bilateral Trade Expansion Plans

During the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain recalled his official visit to Iran in 2025, where both sides agreed to enhance bilateral trade in major agricultural products. He noted that Iran has shown interest in importing Pakistani rice, mangoes, and meat, adding that Pakistan is fully capable of supplying high-quality agricultural products to the Iranian market. The Iranian minister confirmed that Tehran plans to import meat from Pakistan and expressed confidence in the quality of Pakistani livestock products. He emphasized that Pakistan has the capacity to meet up to 60 percent of Iran’s total meat import needs, highlighting the importance of effective trade mechanisms to ensure an uninterrupted supply.

Implementation Timeline and Joint Committee

The two sides reviewed progress on commitments made during earlier meetings and agreed that decisions reflected in the joint communiqué would be implemented within the next two months. They directed relevant departments to speed up procedural matters and address hurdles slowing trade growth. The Iranian minister appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability and thanked the government for supporting regional cooperation efforts. He noted that the joint committee had already been established and stressed the need to make it fully operational to achieve agreed objectives without delay.
