Two major storm systems, Mekkhala and Higos, pounded Japan on Saturday, causing widespread flooding and landslides. According to officials and media reports, the storms have left one person dead and several injured. Casualties and Damage in Yamaguchi Prefecture
A man in his 70s died and three others were injured after a house collapsed in a landslide in Yamaguchi Prefecture on Friday, as reported by Japan's Kyodo News Agency. The incident highlights the severe impact of the storms on residential areas. The Fire and Disaster Management Agency confirmed that more than 30 homes were flooded in Nara and Hiroshima on Friday alone.
Flooding Alerts and Infrastructure Disruptions
Television footage from Kyoto showed the Kamo River swollen with churning, muddy water, prompting a flooding alert in parts of Kyoto, Osaka, and other areas in western Japan. The heavy rain also disrupted train operations and flights in the affected areas, causing travel chaos for residents and visitors.
