Peshawar – Advisor to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Finance Muzzammil Aslam has issued an important statement regarding the Federal Budget 2026–27, questioning who actually supports the budget. He said that even the government’s coalition partners have rejected it.
Budget Rejection by Multiple Parties
Muzzammil Aslam said that, according to media reports, the IMF has also rejected the relief measures announced in the budget, while opposition parties and PTI have likewise turned it down. He added that the federal government’s request for grants from the provinces has not been endorsed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
Conditional Budget Consultation
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has made its budget consultation conditional upon approval and consultation with PTI founder chairman Imran Khan. He questioned who is truly satisfied with the budget and asked whether this should not be considered a failure.
Reaction to Punjab’s Token Tax Increase
In a separate statement, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Adviser Muzzammil Aslam reacted to Punjab’s increase in token tax rates. He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has the lowest tax rate in Pakistan on credit card and online payments, at 6 percent, whereas Punjab has increased its rate on credit card and online transactions to 8 percent.
Lowest Local Taxes in KP
Muzzammil Aslam further said that local taxes, including vehicle registration and property transfer taxes, are also the lowest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
