Peshawar – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Irrigation, Riaz Khan, on Wednesday formally inaugurated the Bara River Canal System Rehabilitation and Improvement project in Tehsil Bara, district Khyber. The project is being implemented at a total cost of Rs295 million.
Inauguration Ceremony
The inauguration ceremony was attended by MPA Abdul Ghani Afridi, Secretary Irrigation Abid Wazir, senior officials of the Irrigation Department, local elders, and a large number of residents. On the occasion, the minister was given a detailed briefing on the project.
Project Details
He was informed that Rs123.370 million have been allocated for the construction and improvement of Bara River Canal System Minor “D”. An amount of Rs109.949 million will be spent on the construction and improvement of the canal patrol road, while Rs57.903 million have been earmarked for the construction and rehabilitation of allied structures associated with the Bara River Canal System.
Minister's Remarks
Addressing the gathering, the minister said that under the leadership of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, development activities are progressing rapidly across the merged districts. He said that merged areas had been neglected in the past, but the current KP government is committed to bringing them into the mainstream of development through the implementation of extensive development projects.
He added that practical measures are being undertaken to address the long-standing deprivations of the tribal people and to ensure the prompt provision of essential public services and facilities.
Agricultural Impact
The KP Irrigation Minister emphasized that the rehabilitation of the Bara Canal System represents a new hope for the people of Khyber and will significantly contribute to enhancing agricultural productivity in the region.
Riaz Khan further said that the current provincial government is implementing development projects across all districts without discrimination, enabling citizens to benefit from improved infrastructure and public services in the near future. He also issued clear directives to the concerned officials to ensure transparency in all development projects, maintain the highest standards of construction materials and workmanship, and guarantee the timely completion of the project under all circumstances.
