Renowned religious scholar Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi on Thursday declared that Islam is a religion of peace, love, and brotherhood, emphasizing that promoting a tolerant and harmonious society aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Ashrafi highlighted the active role of religious scholars from across Pakistan in advancing peace, stability, and national unity.
Scholars Commended for Fostering Inter-Sect Unity During Ashura
Ashrafi praised scholars from all schools of thought for their efforts in maintaining harmony and tolerance during the observance of Ashura. He noted that their collective contributions had significantly strengthened inter-sect unity across the country.
National Paigham-e-Amn Committee's Unified Narrative
Ashrafi revealed that the National Paigham-e-Amn Committee has been issuing a unified narrative on major national and religious issues since September. This message has been reflected in Friday sermons delivered in mosques nationwide. He stated that representatives from 11 of Pakistan's 15 major religious seminaries are members of the committee, with around 22,000 seminaries affiliated with them. Additionally, administrators from another 12,000 seminaries are represented on the platform.
Call for Nationwide Interfaith Gatherings
The religious scholar expressed a desire to replicate the inclusive gatherings held at Jamia Ashrafia in mosques across the country. These gatherings would bring together followers of different Islamic schools of thought as well as members of other faiths to promote mutual respect, interfaith harmony, and peaceful coexistence.
Warning Against Sectarianism
Ashrafi warned that anyone attempting to incite unrest or spread sectarian hatred would face legal action, regardless of their religious affiliation. He reiterated the committee's commitment to making Pakistan a peaceful country while strengthening unity within the Muslim community. The National Paigham-e-Amn Committee will continue its efforts to counter sectarianism and promote national cohesion.
