Delegation Begins Five-Day Academic Visit to Sri Lanka
A delegation of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, along with representatives from eight Pakistani universities, has commenced a five-day academic visit to Sri Lanka. The delegation held detailed meetings with the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka, Maj Gen (R) Dr Nayyar Naseer, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Sri Lanka, Senior Professor Kapila Seneneratne, and other key figures.
Led by Project Director HEC Mr Jehanzeb Khan, the delegation will carry out academic activities under the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme. These include meetings with top academicians, visits to renowned higher education institutions, and education exhibitions to promote the programme.
Strengthening Bilateral Academic Relations
The visit aims to strengthen academic ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. It coincides with HEC’s invitation for Sri Lankan students to apply for Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships, with the deadline set for July 5.
High Commissioner Maj Gen (R) Dr Nayyar Naseer welcomed the delegation and emphasized the need for sustained efforts to enhance bilateral academic relations. He stressed diversifying the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarship Scheme, increasing academic exchanges, and building research collaborations.
Progress Under Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme
The delegates briefed the High Commissioner on the success of the programme, highlighting the increase in Sri Lankan student enrollment in Pakistani universities in recent years.
During the meeting with UGC Chairman Senior Professor Kapila Seneneratne, Mr Jehanzeb Khan reiterated HEC’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through higher education collaboration. He outlined opportunities under the programme, particularly the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships, and briefed on the accomplishments achieved.
Mr Khan emphasized the importance of UGC’s support in expanding bilateral relations through initiatives like the Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme. The Chairman UGC appreciated HEC Pakistan’s efforts and assured support for the programme’s success. He acknowledged the potential for collaboration between higher education institutions of both countries and noted that Vice-Chancellors of Sri Lankan universities are being informed about the programme and its features.
Visit to Bauddhaloka Foundation
The delegation also visited the Bauddhaloka Foundation, an organization providing services in religious, cultural, and social spheres. Mr Jehanzeb Khan highlighted the vital relations between the two friendly countries and emphasized the role of higher education collaboration in bringing people closer.
