ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khan, the sister of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, on Monday dismissed reports about the former prime minister's meeting with an ex-army chief at Adiala Jail as “totally fake.”
“All the news circulating on social media that a former Army Chief met Imran Khan in Adiala Jail are fake,” she said in a post on X. Her statement came after social media reports over the weekend claimed such a meeting had taken place.
Aleema said that they had checked with PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan, who also confirmed that “this is totally fake.” She described the reports as disinformation “especially spread to distract from the fact that Imran Khan is being tortured through total isolation.”
She further claimed that the reports were meant to divert attention from the fact that the jailed politician was not allowed proper treatment for his eye at a proper hospital. She added that he had neither been allowed to speak to his sons nor permitted television or books for the past six months.
Aleema asserted that Imran Khan had not been allowed contact with anyone from the outside world in the past six months, except two visits by his lawyer on the orders of the court. “There is a full bench court order that allows for at least 18 people to visit him every week,” she said, adding that six family members and six lawyers are allowed on Tuesdays, and six party members on Thursdays.
She concluded that all these concerns were the ex-premier's “lawful rights, under Pakistan’s laws and the International laws.”
