In a significant move toward enhancing public service delivery, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah has mandated the implementation of an Open-Door Policy across all districts of the province. This initiative aims to bridge the communication gap between citizens and district administrations.
Direct Public Access to District Officials
The Chief Secretary has issued clear instructions to all Deputy Commissioners, requiring them to ensure the policy's full enforcement. Specific daily hours will be allocated for public meetings, allowing citizens to present their problems directly to district officials and receive immediate responses.
"Good governance begins with the timely resolution of citizens' basic issues," stated Shah during the announcement. He emphasized that the provincial administration firmly believes transparent, accessible, and people-centered governance forms the foundation of effective service delivery.
Tourism Department's Governance Initiatives Reviewed
In a separate but related development, Chief Secretary Shah chaired a meeting to review the Good Governance initiatives of the Tourism Department. The session was attended by Secretary Tourism and other senior officials who briefed him on ongoing efforts under the province's Good Governance Roadmap.
Officials revealed that sixteen governance initiatives are currently being implemented to improve service delivery and ensure environmental protection. Significant progress includes master planning for popular tourist destinations Galiyat, Kaghan, Naran, and Kumrat, with local community participation aimed at supporting the economy while preserving natural resources.
Major Investments in Tourism Infrastructure
A substantial Rs. 2.5 billion Solid Waste Management System for major tourist destinations will soon be presented to the provincial cabinet for approval. This system is designed to modernize and make waste management more eco-friendly across KP's key tourism spots.
Additionally, the department is introducing audio guide facilities at seven cultural heritage sites to enhance visitor experiences. A public participation framework is also being developed to encourage community involvement in tourism-led economic development projects.
The Chief Secretary reaffirmed the provincial government's commitment to promoting public service, transparency, and improved governance through sustained, result-oriented measures that directly benefit citizens and visitors alike.
