Growing evidence of tactical cooperation between the BLA and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan further dismantles arguments that it is a local separatist movement. International Designations and Strategic Interests
The United States, United Kingdom, and Australia have designated the BLA and Majeed Brigade under their domestic counterterrorism laws. The US issued a Foreign Terrorist Organization designation in August 2025, citing direct threats to American national and economic interests, particularly Balochistan's vast reserves of copper, gold, and rare earth minerals. The senator called on Washington to close the gap between its domestic FTO designation and its position at the UN's 1267 Committee, and urged London to do the same.
Threat to CPEC and Regional Connectivity
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with tens of billions of dollars in infrastructure investment, is a declared BLA target. Every attack on roads, ports, or energy pipelines threatens South Asia's broader economic future. The senator stressed that the international community cannot afford to send a signal that critical infrastructure can be targeted with impunity. The UN's 1267 Committee proposal was not accepted due to insufficient evidence of affiliation with Al Qaeda or ISIL, but Pakistan is committed to strengthening its evidentiary case.

The senator concluded by emphasizing that lasting peace in Balochistan requires governance reform, political inclusion, economic investment, and resolution of historical grievances.
