A delegation from the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), headed by Secretary-General Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Moghedi, is taking part in the UN Counter-Terrorism Week at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The participation comes under directives from Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, who also chairs the coalition’s Council of Defense Ministers.
Event Details and Participation
The forum, organized by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, runs from June 26 to July 2. It brings together member states, experts, and heads of agencies to review the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and address emerging security threats, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) report on Saturday.
Coalition's Role and Focus Areas
Al-Moghedi stated that the coalition’s participation reflects its role as a global partner in counterterrorism. He highlighted the coalition’s work across four key areas: ideology, strategic communications, counterterrorism financing, and military cooperation. These pillars form the core of IMCTC’s comprehensive approach to combating terrorism.
High-Level Meetings
During the event, Al-Moghedi held meetings with Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, to discuss bilateral cooperation. He also met with Alexandre Zuev, the acting UN under-secretary-general for counter-terrorism, and Mauro Miedico, director of the UN Counter-Terrorism Centre. The discussions focused on expanding institutional cooperation between the coalition and UN counterterrorism bodies.
Impact and Significance
The IMCTC’s presence at the UN Counter-Terrorism Week underscores its commitment to international collaboration in fighting terrorism. By engaging with UN officials and member states, the coalition aims to strengthen global counterterrorism efforts and share its expertise in ideological and strategic communications.
