LGH Serves 2.3 Million Patients in 2025, a Major Jump in Healthcare Access
Lahore General Hospital Treats Over 2.3 Million Patients in 2025

In a remarkable demonstration of public healthcare commitment, Lahore General Hospital (LGH) provided free medical treatment to a staggering number of patients last year. The hospital's annual report for 2025 reveals a massive outreach, strictly aligning with the "Health for All" vision championed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Record-Breaking Patient Numbers and Surgical Procedures

The Emergency and Outdoor departments of LGH attended to an impressive 2,324,166 patients throughout 2025. This figure was shared by Principal of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College, Prof Dr Farooq Afzal, while presenting the hospital's annual performance report. The data shows a substantial surge of 365,057 patients compared to the total treated in 2024.

Furthermore, the hospital's surgical teams were exceptionally busy. The performance report indicates that 114,382 surgeries were performed at LGH during the year. This reflects an increase of 15,000 procedures over the previous year's tally. Inpatient services also expanded, with 84,316 admissions recorded, marking a rise of 8,456.

Attributing Success to Leadership and Teamwork

Prof Dr Farooq Afzal credited this significant achievement to the effective policy guidance provided by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Secretary of Specialised Healthcare, Azmat Mehmood Khan. He also extended appreciation to Dr Anum Batool for her crucial role in maintaining transparent and accurate records for all referred patients, ensuring accountability.

In a heartening initiative to support patients and their families, Medical Superintendent Prof Dr Faryad Hussain highlighted a key welfare project. "With the cooperation of philanthropists, quality meals are being provided three times a day to patients and their attendants," he stated. This effort has been instrumental in alleviating the financial burden on patients, particularly those who travel from distant and far-flung areas to seek treatment at the major hospital.

Specialized Care and Future Commitments

The hospital's specialized departments also showed robust performance. For instance, the Breast Clinic at LGH provided essential treatment and care to 5,755 patients in 2025. This underscores the institution's role in offering critical, focused healthcare services.

Looking ahead, Prof Dr Farooq Afzal reaffirmed a steadfast commitment to building on this success. He pledged to further strengthen healthcare services and ensure the continued provision of modern, high-quality medical facilities at Lahore General Hospital. The goal is to sustain and enhance this momentum of accessible and free healthcare for all citizens in the future.
