Benito Skinner, creator and star of the Prime Video comedy Overcompensating, has confirmed that Season 2 will feature him portraying two distinct characters, including a mystery role he teased as part of a major surprise for fans.
Skinner Reveals Double Role at Obsessed Fest
Speaking during Prime Video's inaugural Obsessed Fest fan event in Los Angeles, Skinner shared that the upcoming season will introduce "something sinister." While he will reprise his lead character, Benny, he is also taking on an additional, undisclosed role. According to Deadline, Skinner hinted that viewers should expect an unexpected twist when the series returns, but he stopped short of revealing further details about the second character or its narrative significance.
Season 2 Less True to His Life
Skinner admitted that Season 2 is not as "true to my life" as the first, drawing inspiration instead from his co-stars. The semi-autobiographical comedy, originally inspired by Skinner's own experience as a closeted college athlete, was renewed for a second season following the success of its debut on Prime Video.
Expanded Cast and Darker Tone
The series follows Benny as he navigates identity, friendship, and college life while struggling to reconcile his public image with his true self. Season 2 will expand its ensemble cast: Holmes has been promoted to series regular as Hailee, and new guest stars include Tom Francis, Aisha Dee, and AnnaSophia Robb. Returning cast members include Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, Lukas Gage, Andrea Martin, Julia Shiplett, Nell Verlaque, Danielle Perez, Yasmine Sahid, Boman Martinez-Reid, Tomaso Sanelli, and Austin Lindsay.
Prime Video has yet to announce a release date for Overcompensating Season 2. Skinner's latest comments suggest the new episodes will introduce a darker storyline while continuing the coming-of-age comedy that resonated with audiences in Season 1.
