Cara Delevingne Addresses Amber Heard Rumours on Podcast

Cara Delevingne has publicly addressed long-standing rumours about her relationship with Amber Heard, clarifying the timeline of their connection and denying that they were romantically involved while Heard was married to Johnny Depp. Appearing on the Louis Theroux Podcast, Delevingne reflected on claims that circulated during Depp and Heard's highly publicised legal disputes, explaining that the rumours stemmed from a close friendship that was misunderstood at the time.

Delevingne Speaks on Depp's Jealousy

"I think he was pretty driven crazy by jealousy," Delevingne said of Depp, adding that "nothing was happening at that point" when he believed she and Heard were having an affair. According to Delevingne, the speculation began after she and Heard worked together on the 2013 film London Fields, in which Depp also made a brief cameo appearance. She explained that while the two women became close during that period, there was no romantic relationship while Heard was still with Depp.

Timeline of the Relationship

Depp and Heard began dating around 2011 before marrying in 2015. Their marriage lasted approximately 15 months, with Heard filing for divorce in 2016. Their separation and subsequent legal disputes became one of the most closely followed celebrity cases of the past decade. Delevingne acknowledged that her relationship with Heard changed after the marriage had ended. "Later, after they divorced, it had happened, I suppose," she said. "We were close for a long time, and then when they were going through the divorce, we were entangled." She also noted that Heard was seeing other people during that period, mentioning entrepreneur Elon Musk, who dated Heard on and off after her split from Depp.

Public Scrutiny During Depp-Heard Trial

The interview marked one of the clearest public comments Delevingne has made about the long-rumoured relationship. During Depp's defamation trial against Heard in 2022, allegations involving Delevingne attracted significant public attention, although she was never called to testify and did not publicly address the claims at the time.

Delevingne's Sexuality and Early Career

Beyond discussing Heard, Delevingne also reflected on her own journey with sexuality and the pressures she faced early in her career. The actor, who publicly came out as pansexual in 2020 and has since said she identifies as a lesbian, explained that she recognised her attraction to women from a young age. "I look back on it, it was super evident really young. I knew at 11 years old," she said. Delevingne said becoming more open about her identity was important because of the lack of LGBTQ+ representation she experienced while growing up. She explained that she wanted younger people to have visible role models and stories they could relate to.

Weinstein's Warning

The Paper Towns and Only Murders in the Building actor also recalled advice she received early in her career from disgraced former film producer Harvey Weinstein. Delevingne said Weinstein warned her that publicly dating women would damage her prospects in Hollywood. According to Delevingne, she initially took those comments seriously, believing that being openly gay could limit the opportunities available to her. Over time, however, she rejected that advice and embraced being open about her sexuality.
