Peshawar Crackdown: 75 Shopkeepers Arrested for Profiteering

The district administration of Peshawar conducted a major crackdown against profiteering on Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of 75 shopkeepers for charging exorbitant prices and failing to display official price lists.

Inspections Across the City

The inspection teams covered a wide range of locations, including University Road, Charsadda Road, G.T Road, Dalzak Road, Circular Road, inner city markets, Hayatabad, Ring Road, Kohat Road, Pajgi Road, and other localities within the district. The operation targeted various types of vendors, including butchers, vegetable and fruit sellers, milk vendors, and others.

Legal Action and Enforcement

According to Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Captain (Retd) Sanaullah Khan, administrative officers in the provincial capital issue official price lists for vegetable and fruit markets on a daily basis. They then work to ensure these prices are implemented throughout the district. He emphasized that officers have been instructed to conduct continuous market inspections and take legal action against any complaints of high prices.
