Heinous crimes across the Faisalabad region have seen a dramatic 60% decline during the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period in the previous year, according to official police statistics released on Tuesday.
Sharp Drop in Major Crime Categories
The data, compiled by the Faisalabad police, shows significant reductions in several categories of serious offenses. Murder cases decreased by 45%, while attempted murders fell by 52%. Dacoity and robbery incidents dropped by 58% and 63% respectively. Kidnapping for ransom also saw a 70% decline.
“This is the result of a comprehensive strategy focusing on intelligence-based operations, community policing, and the effective use of modern technology,” said a senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Police Attribute Success to Targeted Operations
Officials credit the reduction to a series of targeted operations against criminal networks, increased patrolling in high-crime areas, and the installation of surveillance cameras at key locations. The police also launched a crackdown on illegal weapons and drug peddlers, which they say contributed to the overall decline in violent crime.
“We have also improved our response time and coordination with the public through a dedicated helpline,” the official added.
Community Engagement and Technology Play Key Role
Community policing initiatives, including regular meetings with neighborhood watch groups and local elders, have helped build trust and encourage reporting of suspicious activities. The use of a centralized crime mapping system has allowed police to deploy resources more efficiently.
“The public’s cooperation has been invaluable. Many cases were solved with tips from citizens,” the official noted.
Comparison with National Trends
While the Faisalabad region’s 60% drop is notable, national crime statistics for the same period have not yet been released. However, experts suggest that similar strategies could be replicated in other districts to achieve comparable results.
The police have vowed to maintain the momentum and further reduce crime in the coming months.
