Rawalpindi Traffic Police Launch Juvenile Driving Permits

The Rawalpindi Traffic Police have officially begun issuing juvenile driving permits to motorcyclists aged between 16 and 18 years. The announcement was made on Saturday by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam in a press statement, marking a significant step toward regulating young riders on the road.

Permit Requirements and Conditions

According to CTO Farhan Aslam, the juvenile driving permit will be issued exclusively for motorcycles and scooties with engine capacities up to 125cc. The permit is available for both boys and girls within the specified age bracket. A key prerequisite is parental consent, which must be provided before the permit can be granted. Additionally, applicants must possess either a smart card or a B-Form as proof of identity.

The annual fee for the juvenile driving permit is set at Rs500 for one year and Rs1,000 for a two-year period. To obtain the permit, applicants must pass both a sign test and a road test. Those who successfully clear these tests will receive their driving permits on the spot.

Safety Measures and Penalties

Wearing a helmet is mandatory for all juvenile permit holders while driving, emphasized CTO Farhan Aslam. The traffic chief also warned that the permit would be cancelled in the event of serious or multiple traffic violations. This measure aims to instill responsible driving habits from a young age and ensure the safety of both the riders and other road users.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Rawalpindi Traffic Police to streamline licensing procedures and enhance road safety. By providing a legal framework for young motorcyclists, the department hopes to reduce unlicensed riding and associated accidents.
