The Punjab government has officially rolled out a modern evidence-based traffic challaning system across the province, under which every traffic ticket will now be backed by complete evidence, including photographs and video footage. According to a Traffic Police spokesperson, motorists who violate traffic rules will receive an SMS alert from 8070 containing a link to the evidence of the offence. By opening the link, citizens will be able to view the videos and images related to their traffic violation.
System Implementation and Technology
The spokesperson said all traffic challans across Punjab will now be issued through the Traffic Police One App, with supporting visual evidence attached. Introduced on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the new system is aimed at making the challaning process more transparent, fair and convenient for the public. DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazeer said the evidence-based challaning system would help minimise unnecessary disputes between motorists and traffic police while also saving valuable time for both sides.
Legal and Enforcement Impact
He added that the system would also support effective legal action against individuals who fail to pay their traffic fines by providing clear and verifiable evidence. The DIG further said the use of modern technology is making the traffic police's public-friendly services more efficient. He added that prompt, transparent and fair justice is the foundation of a progressive and balanced society.
