The enforcement teams of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA), acting on the directives of Director General Syed Musa Raza, conducted operations in Tollinton Market, Shah Kamal, Hanjarwal, Iqbal Town, and Gulberg. During the inspections, raids were carried out on eight food businesses, leading to the sealing of three units, registration of one FIR, and imposition of fines totaling Rs240,000 on five food businesses for violating food safety regulations.

Expired and Contaminated Food Discarded

The food safety teams discarded 300kg of expired and fungus-infested cheese along with more than one maund of unusable vegetables. A milk shop, a soft drinks corner, and a chicken shop were sealed, while legal proceedings were initiated against another food business through the registration of an FIR. Enforcement actions were taken due to non-compliance with previously issued instructions and repeated violations of food safety laws.

Poor Sanitation and Hygiene Violations

DG PFA Musa Raza stated that teams observed poor sanitation arrangements and a heavy presence of cockroaches, flies, and mosquitoes at the premises. Food businesses were found washing utensils with non-food-grade detergents in violation of food safety standards. Mandatory records, including food handlers’ medical certificates and food safety training certificates, were also unavailable during the inspections.
