Residents of Mohmand district have called on the district administration to revise public transport fares following the recent reduction in petroleum prices, arguing that commuters have yet to benefit from the government’s relief measures. Local residents demanded the issuance of an official notification to reduce fares and ensure its implementation across the district.
Disparity in Fare Adjustments
The residents pointed out that transport fares are often increased immediately when fuel prices rise but are rarely reduced when petroleum prices fall, leaving passengers to shoulder the financial burden despite lower operating costs for transporters. They maintained that the decrease in petrol and diesel prices should be reflected in public transport charges.
According to the residents, the district administration should review the existing fare structure, issue updated fare lists, and ensure compliance by transport operators. They emphasized that a timely reduction in fares would provide much-needed relief to commuters, particularly low-income families already struggling with rising living costs.
Impact on Low-Income Families
Many commuters in Mohmand rely on public transport for daily travel, and any reduction in fares would directly ease their financial strain. The residents urged authorities to act promptly, warning that continued inaction would undermine the government’s intent to pass on fuel price reductions to the public.
They also called for strict monitoring of transport operators to prevent profiteering and ensure that fare reductions are fully implemented across all routes in the district.
