The traffic police have introduced a juvenile driving permit scheme, allowing 16-year-old boys and girls to legally ride motorcycles under a regulated framework aimed at improving road safety and traffic compliance. According to officials, applicants must obtain parental consent before applying for the permit and submit a valid smart card or B-Form as part of the registration process.
Permit Conditions and Requirements
Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi Farhan Aslam stated that the permit will authorize holders to operate motorcycles and scooters with engine capacities of up to 125cc only. The traffic police spokesperson added that applicants will be required to pass both sign and road tests before becoming eligible for the permit. Successful candidates will receive their permits immediately after completing the required assessments.
Fee Structure and Safety Measures
Officials said the annual permit fee has been fixed between Rs500 and Rs1,000, depending on the applicable category and processing requirements. The CTO emphasized that helmet use will be mandatory for all permit holders and warned that permits may be revoked in cases of serious or repeated traffic violations.
Objectives of the Initiative
The initiative has been launched to encourage responsible driving habits among young riders, strengthen adherence to traffic regulations, reduce accident risks, and contribute to a safer and more efficient traffic environment.
