A fire that erupted at the Sunday Bazaar in Islamabad's Sector H-9 was successfully brought under control late at night after a large-scale firefighting operation. The district administration confirmed that the blaze spread through several sections of the market, but swift action by emergency teams prevented any casualties.
Emergency Response and Assistance
Officials reported that Rescue 1122 deployed six fire engines to tackle the fire, while the Pakistan Navy's fire brigade also joined the operation and assisted in bringing the situation under control. The coordinated effort ensured the fire did not spread further.
Extent of Damage
The administration stated that the fire affected nearly nine sections of the bazaar and damaged more than 380 stalls. Preliminary estimates suggest financial losses of around Rs120 million (Rs12 crore). The H-9 Sunday Bazaar consists of a total of 2,743 stalls.
Recurring Incidents
This marks the fourth major fire incident at the market in the last three years. Earlier, in July 2024, a similar fire had completely gutted 625 stalls, causing significant losses to traders. The repeated incidents raise concerns about fire safety measures at the market.
