Residents of several localities in Balochistan's industrial city of Hub have expressed serious concern over a prolonged shortage of natural gas, urging the provincial and federal governments to take immediate notice of the situation and replace officials they accuse of failing to address public grievances.
Affected Areas and Daily Disruptions
According to residents of Allahabad Town, Magsi Colony, Doda Goth, Gulshan Subhan, Gulshan Ibrahim, Charahi, Bhattabad, Jam Colony and surrounding areas, domestic consumers have been facing an acute shortage of gas for several months, with supplies remaining unavailable during breakfast, lunch and dinner hours.
Residents said the shortage has severely disrupted daily life, forcing children to leave for school without breakfast and workers to go to their jobs without meals. They added that many families are unable to prepare food in the evening due to low gas pressure or complete suspension of supply.
Allegations of Unequal Distribution and Wastage
Local community leaders and political and social figures questioned why commercial establishments and filling stations continue to receive adequate gas supplies while residential consumers remain deprived. They also alleged that gas leakages in different parts of the city are resulting in significant wastage and accused authorities of failing to take corrective measures.
The residents claimed that despite receiving little or no gas, they continue to receive high utility bills, adding to their financial burden amid rising inflation and limited employment opportunities.
Demands for Official Action
Calling for immediate intervention, they appealed to the Deputy Commissioner Hub and the provincial and federal governments to ensure uninterrupted gas supply, address low-pressure issues and provide relief to domestic consumers. They also demanded the transfer of the current Sui Southern Gas officials and the appointment of competent and public-friendly officers capable of resolving the city's longstanding gas supply problems.
Residents warned that if their concerns are not addressed promptly, they will be compelled to stage protests along with their families.
