Flash floods triggered by the third spell of monsoon rains inundated several villages in Dera Ghazi Khan on Tuesday, affecting at least 30 houses and around 550 residents as Rescue 1122 launched a large-scale relief operation.
Cause and Affected Areas
According to the district administration, torrential rains in the Koh-e-Suleman range caused low-level flooding in several hill torrents, including Wador, Sakhi Sarwar, Sori Lund, Sanghar and Wahwa. Authorities had earlier issued flood alerts, advising residents to stay away from seasonal streams and avoid unnecessary travel.
The worst-affected areas were Shero Dasti and Kotani near the Munday Wali Bridge, where flash floods inundated around 30 houses with up to five feet of water. Rescue teams began evacuating residents to safe locations.
Rescue and Relief Efforts
Rescue 1122 deployed two rescue boats to evacuate people, livestock, wheat stocks and household belongings in an effort to minimise losses. The relief and rescue operation was under way till the evening.
Water Flow Data
According to the Punjab Irrigation Department's Flood Control Division, water flows were recorded at 24,064 cusecs at Sanghar, 11,037 cusecs at Kora, 4,411 cusecs at Sori Lund, 3,000 cusecs at Wahwa and 1,832 cusecs at Wador.
