CM Maryam Nawaz Approves New Road Schemes in Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved several new road schemes and directed authorities to accelerate work on ongoing infrastructure projects across the province. The decisions were made during a meeting chaired by the chief minister, where officials presented updates on the Chief Minister's Initiative, Local Roads Programme, and projects nearing completion.

Rs125 Billion Allocated for Road Development

Participants were informed that Rs125 billion has been allocated for the Chief Minister's Initiative, Local Roads Programme, and projects nearing completion. Officials reported that 99 per cent of the development funds earmarked for the road sector have been utilised. The Local Roads Programme comprises 1,567 schemes worth Rs79 billion, covering a total of 3,400 kilometres. Of these, 1,129 schemes have been completed within a span of 75 days.

Significant Savings and Completed Projects

The officials highlighted that savings of Rs11 billion have been made in road restoration projects. Several major road projects have been completed, including the 93.5km Multan-Vehari dual carriageway, the 24km Faisalabad-Chiniot dual carriageway, and the 13km Tourism Highway. Additionally, restoration of all 124 roads damaged by floods has been completed.

New Service Areas Approved

The chief minister approved the establishment of six service areas under the Punjab Ring Road Authority. According to a briefing, these facilities are expected to generate annual revenue of Rs500 million. The meeting underscored the government's commitment to improving road infrastructure and ensuring efficient utilisation of funds.
