AJGL Dedicates First WAGR Event to Taimur Hassan Amin

The Pakistani golfing scene is set to witness a historic and heartfelt tribute. The Ace Junior Golf League (AJGL) has announced that its very first World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event will be dedicated to the living legend of Pakistani golf, Taimur Hassan Amin.

A Fitting Tribute to a National Icon

This landmark championship is scheduled to be held from November 21 to 22 at the magnificent Rumanza Golf Course in Multan, a course designed by the iconic Sir Nick Faldo. By dedicating this inaugural WAGR event to Taimur Hassan Amin, the AJGL is honoring a man whose name is synonymous with golfing excellence in Pakistan.

Taimur Hassan Amin's career is a chronicle of unparalleled achievements. He first shot to fame by becoming Pakistan's Youngest National Champion at just 18 years old in 1971. His dominance in the national arena is legendary, having secured an incredible 16 National Amateur titles. A remarkable 11 of these titles were won consecutively from 1970 to 1981. He also lifted the prestigious Pakistan Open trophy three times in 1974, 1976, and 1986.

International Acclaim and Lasting Legacy

His prowess was not confined to Pakistan. Taimur Hassan Amin was a force on the international circuit, claiming victories across the globe. His impressive record includes multiple wins at the Sri Lanka Amateur Championships and the Victoria Cup in Sri Lanka. He also excelled at prestigious opens in Germany, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Bahrain, and the UAE Amateur and Thomas Cook Open in India.

A pinnacle of his team leadership came when he captained Pakistan to an individual win at the 1977 Asia-Pacific Amateur Team Championship (Nomura Cup) in Kuala Lumpur. In recognition of his stellar contributions to the sport, he was awarded the President's Pride of Performance Award in 1993, remaining the only Pakistani golfer to receive this honor.

Beyond his playing days, he continued to shape the sport, serving as Secretary and later Vice President of the Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF).

The organization of this significant event is being led by Gen. Hilal Hussain (R), Patron-in-Chief of AJGL and a former PGF President. The league's vision is strongly guided by Dr. Asma Afzal Shami, the Chairperson of AJGL, who firmly states that "AJGL is a Cause!" The operational success of the tournament rests with Tournament Director and Chief Referee Munazza Shaheen, with support from Tournament Coordinator Iffat Zahra.
