Toby Wallace to Lead Netflix's Assassin's Creed Series

In a major move for entertainment, streaming giant Netflix has officially cast actor Toby Wallace in a leading role for its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the global video game phenomenon, 'Assassin's Creed'. This series marks a significant step in Netflix's expanding partnership with the game's creator, Ubisoft.

Star Power and Production Details

The 24-year-old Australian actor, Toby Wallace, is set to take on a co-lead role in this ambitious project. Wallace is no stranger to critically acclaimed productions, having delivered memorable performances in HBO's hit series Euphoria, FX's limited series Pistol, and films such as The Bikeriders and Babyteeth.

The project was officially given the green light in July 2025 and is expected to commence filming next year, with the historic and scenic landscapes of Italy serving as a key production location. While specific details about Wallace's character are being kept tightly under wraps, the official logline promises a gripping narrative.

The Epic World of Assassin's Creed

The series will dive into the franchise's core conflict: a secret war between two ancient, shadowy factions. One group seeks to dominate humanity's future, while the other, the Assassins, fights tirelessly to protect free will. The story is set to span pivotal moments in history, blending high-octane action with deep political intrigue and profound human drama.

The creative force behind the camera includes Emmy-nominated Roberto Patino and David Wiener, who will serve as showrunners and executive producers. They are joined by a powerhouse team from Ubisoft, including Gérard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Genevieve Jones, alongside Netflix's Matt O'Toole.

In a joint statement, Patino and Wiener expressed their vision, saying, "Beneath the spectacle, parkour and thrills lies a story about identity, purpose and human connection across time and cultures. We are committed to creating something undeniable for fans worldwide."

A Franchise's Expanding Universe

This live-action series is just the beginning. It represents the first of several adaptations planned under the comprehensive partnership between Netflix and Ubisoft. The original 'Assassin's Creed' video game launched in 2007, introducing players to the eternal struggle between the Assassins and Templars. Since its debut, the franchise has become a cultural juggernaut, selling over 230 million copies worldwide across 14 main titles and numerous spin-offs.

A 2016 feature film starring Michael Fassbender previously brought the game to the big screen. Now, Netflix is building a whole universe around the property. In addition to this live-action show, the platform is also developing an animated 'Assassin's Creed' series and a brand-new video game exclusive to its service, signaling a massive expansion for the beloved franchise.
