Prince William disclosed that his father, King Charles, “hates football” during an appearance on Travis Kelce’s podcast aired on Friday, just hours before the NFL star was set to celebrate his marriage to pop superstar Taylor Swift.
World Cup Focus Over Royal Wedding
The World Cup, rather than the wedding, dominated the conversation with Kelce and his co-host brother Jason Kelce. The Prince of Wales stated he would travel to the United States for the competition if England reached the final. Known as a fan of Aston Villa, William was asked if King Charles sparked his interest in football. He replied: “Absolutely not. My father hates football.”
England's World Cup Performance
Thanks to a standout performance from captain and FC Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane, who scored two late goals against DR Congo, England advanced to the round of 16. The “Three Lions” are scheduled to face Mexico at the high-altitude Azteca Stadium on Sunday.
When Kelce inquired if the Prince would cross “the pond” to attend the final if England qualifies, William responded “definitely.” He added, “If we’re in the finals...maybe see you both there for the final?”
July Fourth and US-UK Relations
The interview coincided with US July Fourth celebrations, marking 250 years of independence from Britain. Kelce asked, “Be honest, are you surprised we made it?” William replied, “There were times...there were times,” then added, “yeah, but I’d like to think the UK and the US have been together for those 250 years.”
