Interior Minister Naqvi Announces Major Security and Civic Reforms for Islamabad
In a significant move to bolster law and order and enhance civic amenities, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi presided over a high-level meeting in Islamabad. The session focused on strategic decisions aimed at improving the security landscape and public services in the federal capital.
Streamlining Security Through Entry Point Reduction
A key decision emerged from the meeting: Islamabad's 109 entry points will be gradually reduced to 25. This initiative is designed to streamline security protocols and enhance monitoring capabilities across the city. Minister Naqvi directed authorities to formulate an effective strategy for this transition, ensuring a smooth implementation process.
Emphasis on Practical Enforcement and Red Zone Functionality
Naqvi stressed that security checkpoints must not exist merely as formalities. "Strict monitoring at security checkpoints and entry points will ensure foolproof security," he stated, adding that their true effectiveness should be visibly demonstrated. He also emphasized the need to make the Red Zone fully functional with practical enforcement measures, reinforcing the government's unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in Islamabad.
Enhancing Civic Amenities and Cleanliness
Beyond security, the minister issued directives to improve the quality of services and facilities provided to citizens. He assigned responsibility for city cleanliness and anti-encroachment operations to the Assistant Commissioners, ordering the immediate removal of unnecessary items from major roads to ensure better urban management.
Administrative Support and Attendees
Naqvi assured full administrative support for staff involved in maintaining law and order and promoting the capital's development. The meeting was attended by key officials, including:
- Islamabad Capital Police Inspector General
- Chief Commissioner Islamabad
- Deputy Commissioner
- DIGs, SSPs, and SPs
- All Assistant Commissioners
This comprehensive approach underscores the government's dedication to transforming Islamabad into a safer and more livable city through coordinated efforts across multiple departments.
