Sargodha Residents Voice Concerns Over Professional Begging Epidemic
The people of Sargodha have raised their voices against what they describe as a growing epidemic of professional begging that has taken over their city. On Sunday, numerous citizens came forward to demand immediate action from relevant authorities to address this pressing issue.
Widespread Presence in Public Spaces
According to Muhammad Ashraf Bhutta, a resident of Zafar Colony, beggars have become a common sight across all streets of Sargodha. These individuals often employ deceptive tactics, including presenting fake medical prescriptions to solicit money from compassionate citizens. Bhutta emphasized that a significant majority of these beggars fabricate stories to gain public sympathy and financial assistance.
The problem extends beyond mere inconvenience, as shopkeeper Muhammad Farooq pointed out. Beggars congregate in large numbers on roads, in parks, at markets, traffic signals, and other public areas, creating substantial obstacles for daily commuters and affecting local business activities.
Security Concerns and Criminal Activities
What began as a nuisance has evolved into a potential security threat, according to concerned citizens. Muhammad Ashraf Bhutta further revealed that some beggars not only disturb residents by going door-to-door but are also reportedly involved in various criminal activities.
Female shopper Amna Ali echoed these concerns, warning authorities that the rising trend of organized begging could pose serious security risks to the general public. The situation has become particularly alarming as beggars of all ages, including women and children, freely solicit money in crowded areas such as markets, bazaars, and bus terminals.
Citizens Call for Coordinated Action
School teacher Razia Khursheed confirmed the widespread nature of this problem, observing beggars operating openly throughout the city. The community has collectively urged multiple government bodies to intervene, specifically calling upon the Social Welfare Department, Child Protection Welfare Bureau, and local police to implement strict measures against this rapidly growing phenomenon.
Residents emphasize that the number of professional beggars continues to increase at an alarming rate, requiring immediate and decisive action from authorities. The situation demands a comprehensive strategy that addresses both the immediate public inconvenience and the underlying factors contributing to this social issue.
