PFA Gujrat Crackdown: 5 Shops Fined Rs86,000, Unfit Food Destroyed
PFA Fines 5 Gujrat Shops Rs86,000 in Food Safety Drive

In a significant move to safeguard public health, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has conducted a sweeping enforcement operation across Gujrat district. The food safety watchdog carried out a series of inspections targeting various food businesses to enforce hygiene and safety standards.

Widespread Inspections and Penal Actions

The authority executed a total of 80 inspections at food outlets throughout the district. During this rigorous campaign, officials identified numerous violations of established food safety protocols. As a result, 17 shops were served with formal improvement notices, instructing them to rectify identified shortcomings within a specified timeframe.

For more serious breaches, the PFA did not hesitate to impose financial penalties. Five establishments were fined a collective sum of Rs86,000 for their failure to comply with the required health and safety regulations. This monetary punishment underscores the authority's zero-tolerance approach towards negligence that could jeopardize consumer well-being.

Destruction of Prohibited Food Items

A critical aspect of the operation was the seizure and disposal of hazardous consumables. The PFA teams confiscated 1.1 kilograms of food items that were deemed prohibited and unfit for human consumption. These items were promptly destroyed on-site to prevent them from entering the food supply chain, eliminating a direct risk to the public.

Ongoing Commitment to Consumer Protection

A spokesperson for the Punjab Food Authority emphasized that these actions are part of a continuous effort. The authority has made it clear that inspections and strict regulatory measures will persist in Gujrat and across Punjab. The core mission remains the protection of consumers and the enforcement of high standards in all food-related businesses.

The spokesperson reiterated the PFA's unwavering commitment to ensuring that every food outlet in the district operates with the highest levels of hygiene and safety. This ongoing vigilance is intended to foster a culture of compliance and prioritize public health above all else.
