In a decisive move to safeguard public health, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) launched a sweeping crackdown across Chiniot district this Sunday. Acting on the directives of the Director-General, enforcement teams conducted rigorous inspections, uncovering alarming levels of food adulteration, particularly in the milk supply.
Widespread Inspections Reveal Critical Violations
The operation was extensive, targeting a total of 84 food-related businesses and vehicles. A significant focus was on the milk supply chain, with officials checking 38 milk-carrier vehicles. The findings were deeply concerning. A large quantity of the milk being transported and sold was found to be severely adulterated, compromising its safety for human consumption.
Authorities took immediate action, destroying the contaminated milk on the spot to prevent it from reaching consumers. Beyond dairy, the teams also confiscated and disposed of more than one kilogram of various substandard food items during the day-long drive.
Hefty Fines Imposed for Health Breaches
The violations discovered during the raid were not taken lightly. The PFA imposed a series of financial penalties to underscore the seriousness of the offences. Grocery shops and milk sale points were collectively fined Rs 47,000 for flouting safety standards.
Officials stressed that these penalties reflect the direct threat such breaches pose to community well-being. Adulterated food and milk can lead to severe health issues, making these enforcement actions a critical public health necessity.
A Stern Warning for Future Compliance
Following the operation, a spokesperson for the Punjab Food Authority issued a clear warning. Such enforcement actions will continue without pause across the district of Chiniot until full compliance with food safety regulations is achieved.
The message is unequivocal: the authority is committed to rooting out malpractices in the food supply chain. This raid serves as a stern reminder to all food business operators to adhere strictly to health codes and quality standards or face legal and financial consequences.
