Militants escaped after an exchange of fire with security personnel during a joint search operation in the Machkandi area of Shangla district, police said on Wednesday. According to Shangla Police, the operation was launched in the jurisdiction of Choga Police Station after intelligence reports indicated the presence of suspected militants in the area. Police referred to the suspects as belonging to “Fitna Al-Khawarij”.
Operation Details and Supervision
A police spokesperson said the operation was conducted under the supervision of District Police Officer (DPO) Shah Hassan and involved personnel from the Shangla Police, the Elite Force and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD). Security personnel cordoned off Machkandi and nearby localities before carrying out a search of the area.
Exchange of Fire and Escape
During the operation, an exchange of fire took place, but the suspects managed to flee into the surrounding forests and mountainous terrain. Officials said search operations and intelligence-based actions were continuing to trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Community Engagement and Appeal
Senior police officers also met local elders and community representatives, urging them to cooperate with the authorities by reporting suspicious activity and assisting efforts to maintain peace and security. Speaking after the operation, DPO Shah Hassan said action against militants and their facilitators would continue and appealed to the public to report suspicious individuals or activities through the nearest police station or the Police Helpline 15. No casualties or arrests were reported during the operation.
