According to the South African Police Service, the violent episode unfolded just before 1 a.m. local time at a licensed drinking establishment located in the Bekkersdal township. This area is situated approximately 40 kilometres southwest of Johannesburg and falls under the Rand West City local municipality.
Police investigators detailed that roughly 12 suspects arrived at the scene in two vehicles: a white minibus and a silver sedan. Without warning, they began shooting at patrons inside the tavern.
