Brutal Gang-Rape Shocks Haripur Community
A horrific incident of sexual violence has shaken the Khalabat Township community in Haripur district, where a 21-year-old married Afghan woman was allegedly gang-raped by five men. The victim, who holds a valid Pakistani visa, reported the brutal assault to local authorities, leading to the swift arrest of all suspects.
Details of the Traumatic Assault
According to police records, the victim was walking to Afghan Camp No. 16 to visit her relatives on Thursday evening when the attack occurred. The woman told investigators that a young man suddenly overpowered her and dragged her into a nearby maize field. The assailant identified himself as Bacha before allegedly raping her.
The situation worsened when four additional men, who were already present in the vicinity, joined the assault. All five men allegedly took turns raping the victim, with the attack turning violent when she attempted to resist. One of the attackers reportedly slapped and punched her, causing visible injuries to her face and lips.
Police Response and Medical Confirmation
Khalabat Township Station House Officer Inspector Siddiq Shah confirmed that the preliminary medical report from Trauma Centre Haripur has verified the gang-rape. While the detailed forensic report is still awaited, the initial medical examination provides substantial evidence of the assault.
All five suspects have been identified as Afghan refugees and were promptly arrested by police authorities. A formal case has been registered against them under Section 375-A of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with punishment for rape.
The legal process moved quickly as the arrested suspects were produced before the area magistrate on Saturday. Police successfully obtained a three-day physical remand for further investigation and evidence collection.
Background of the Victim
The victim revealed to police that she lives alone in a rented house in New Abadi, Sector 3 of Khalabat Township while her husband is currently abroad. She emphasized that she possesses proper documentation, including a valid Pakistani visa, making her stay in the country legal. This detail becomes significant given that all identified assailants are also Afghan refugees, highlighting concerning dynamics within refugee communities.
The case has drawn attention to the vulnerabilities faced by women, particularly those living without immediate family protection. Local authorities have assured thorough investigation and appropriate legal action against the perpetrators.
