KARACHI: In a joint intelligence-based operation, Pakistan Rangers Sindh and the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Police apprehended five suspects allegedly involved in an extortion network linked to the Ahmed Ali Magsi and Waqar gang. The operation took place in PIB Colony on Monday.
Operation Details
According to an official statement, the suspects opened fire on law enforcement personnel during the raid. In retaliatory firing, two highly wanted suspects, identified as Abdullah and Abdul Sami, were arrested in injured condition. Three other suspects—Hameed, Ubaid, and Khuda Bakhsh—were apprehended without injury. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.
Gang Leaders at Large
The statement revealed that alleged gang leaders Ahmed Ali Magsi and Waqar remain in hiding to avoid arrest. They are believed to be operating an organized extortion network in PIB Colony from concealed locations. The arrested suspects were described as key operatives of the gang, involved in extorting factory owners, private builders, and businessmen in PIB Colony and adjoining areas under the instructions of the gang leaders.
The suspects were also allegedly involved in firing incidents, issuing threatening calls, and creating fear among traders and residents for non-payment of extortion money. According to the statement, the arrested men were habitual offenders and had previously been jailed in different cases.
Legal Proceedings
Raids are being conducted to arrest other accomplices of the gang. The arrested suspects, along with recovered weapons and ammunition, have been handed over to SIU police for further legal proceedings.
