The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the federal government to submit its response concerning the alleged non-payment of the compensation package announced for the families of the martyrs of the Army Public School (APS) tragedy. A three-member bench, led by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, heard the matter.
Court Proceedings
During the proceedings, Justice Irfan Saadat noted that the petition had been filed 25 days after the prescribed time limit. Representing the petitioners, the counsel argued that the compensation package promised by the government for the families of the APS martyrs had yet to be fully disbursed.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar observed that if some affected families had already received the package, then the same benefits should be provided to all eligible families. He also directed the federal government to explain how much of the Peshawar High Court's ruling had been implemented.
Contempt Petition
The court also took up a contempt petition filed by the families of the martyrs, who claimed that the Peshawar High Court's decision had not been properly enforced. The High Court had earlier dismissed the contempt application.
Following the initial hearing, the Supreme Court adjourned the case for an indefinite period and sought a detailed response from the federal government on the matter.
In a related development, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) sealed 128 properties in a crackdown on illegal commercial activities.
