In a significant political move, Pakistan's opposition alliance, the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP), has formally called for an immediate joint sitting of parliament to address the escalating regional instability, particularly in the wake of recent unrest in Iran.
Key Meeting and Unified Demand
This crucial demand emerged from an important meeting of the TTAP held in Islamabad on Wednesday. The session was chaired by Mehmood Khan Achakzai, who is the nominee for the opposition leader in the National Assembly. The gathering saw participation from prominent opposition figures, underscoring the seriousness of the issue.
Attendees included Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Vice Chairman of TTAP and head of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen; Asad Qaiser, the alliance's secretary general and former National Assembly speaker; Salman Akram Raja, Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI); Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, another Vice Chairman of TTAP; and Hussain Ahmed Yousafzai, the alliance's spokesperson.
Concerns Over a Declining World Order
The participants expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in the region, with a specific focus on the Middle East crisis. They argued that the international order established after World War II is now in a state of decline. The alliance pointed to Israeli aggression and the genocide of Palestinian Muslims, coupled with the behavior of the United States in Latin America, as actions that have shattered international laws and rendered institutions like Washington ineffective.
"In such a situation, the government should call an immediate joint session of parliament on foreign policy and the emerging crisis situation and formulate a national policy through collective wisdom," the participants collectively stated.
Call for Regional Diplomacy and Action
The opposition leaders also voiced apprehension about external pressures on Iran. They alleged that imperialist and colonialist forces are tightening a siege against the neighboring brotherly Islamic country of Iran. They further warned that a narrative is being crafted through Western media to potentially justify an attack on Iran's sovereignty.
Given these circumstances, the TTAP meeting concluded that there is serious concern among the Pakistani populace. They urged the government to convene a meeting of neighboring countries to devise a joint plan of action, considering the gravity of the potential crisis and its likely impact on the entire region.
