Three branches of the Toji Khel clan of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe have jointly formed a 300-member tribal lashkar in the Kari Kot area of Wana, Lower South Waziristan. This move comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen local security and maintain peace in the region.

Composition of the Lashkar

Local sources confirmed that the force comprises members of the Makkha Khel and Bia Khel sub-clans of the Malay Khel branch, along with the Masti Khel branch. Another significant branch of the clan, Shamshi Khel, has reportedly sought a one-day extension before deciding whether to join the initiative.

Deployment and Monitoring

Sources said members of the newly established lashkar have been deployed at key locations, including Ghwakhwa, Parsh Lagad, Shaheed Mor and Kaddi Kot Bazaar. They are monitoring movement in the area from strategically positioned posts. The Toji Khel tribe has also authorised the force to respond to any perceived security threats within its territorial limits, according to local sources.

Meanwhile, preparations are under way for the Waziristan National Peace Jirga. A negotiating committee has been constituted to oversee arrangements and coordinate participation. The jirga is scheduled to convene on Sunday and will mark the third meeting in an ongoing consultative process. Two sessions have already been held as tribal leaders seek to build consensus on addressing security concerns and promoting lasting peace in the region.

Expected Participants and Objectives

According to organisers, representatives of nine tribes are expected to attend, alongside tribal elders, political and social figures, community leaders and elected public representatives. Local observers said the principal objective of the gathering is to formulate a collective tribal strategy aimed at strengthening peace, enhancing stability and developing a unified response to the region’s prevailing security challenges.
