Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has leveled serious allegations against the ruling coalition, claiming that opposition voices are being systematically stifled in Parliament. In a press conference held on Tuesday, senior PTI leaders expressed deep concern over what they described as a deliberate attempt to silence dissent through procedural manipulation and heavy-handed tactics.
PTI's Allegations
PTI spokesperson Shibli Faraz stated, "The government is using its majority to bulldoze through legislation without allowing any debate. Our members are being denied the right to speak, and important bills are being passed in the dead of night." He further alleged that Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is acting in a partisan manner, violating parliamentary rules to favor the ruling alliance.
Specific Incidents Cited
PTI lawmakers pointed to several instances where they claim their rights were curtailed. These include the abrupt adjournment of sessions when PTI members were scheduled to speak, the denial of permission to move adjournment motions on pressing issues, and the referral of PTI members to the privileges committee for raising slogans in protest.
"On Monday, our member from Lahore was not allowed to present a point of order regarding the rising inflation and unemployment. The Speaker simply moved on to the next agenda item," said PTI leader Asad Qaiser. The party also alleged that the government is using the Public Accounts Committee to target PTI-led provincial governments, with selective audits being conducted.
Government's Response
Responding to the allegations, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb dismissed PTI's claims as baseless. "The opposition has been given ample time to speak. In fact, they often waste time by creating disruptions. The government is committed to democratic norms and following the rules of business," she said.
She accused PTI of trying to create anarchy in Parliament because they cannot accept their electoral defeat. "They have no constructive role to play and are only interested in scoring political points," Aurangzeb added.

The allegations come at a time when several key bills are pending approval, including the Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2024 and the National Accountability (Amendment) Bill. PTI has vowed to challenge any legislation passed without proper debate in court. "We will not accept laws that are bulldozed through Parliament.
