Punjab Excise Department Implements New Vehicle Re-Registration Framework
The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department in Punjab has officially commenced the issuance of new registration numbers for vehicles and motorcycles originally registered in other provinces of Pakistan. This significant policy shift includes the Rawalpindi Division and is governed by a newly established Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Launch of Re-Registration Process with Enhanced Security Measures
Starting Saturday, February 14, the Rawalpindi office initiated the fresh re-registration of vehicles from other provinces, incorporating mandatory biometric verification for vehicle owners. This move aims to streamline administrative processes and bolster security protocols across the region.
Eligibility and Requirements for Applicants
Under the new permissions, all types of vehicles and motorcycles, regardless of engine capacity, that are registered in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir can now be re-registered in Punjab. Applicants must adhere to several key requirements:
- Obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Excise Office of the concerned province.
- Provide a vehicle clearance certificate and a Police 15 report.
- Submit the complete vehicle file along with an affidavit from the vehicle owner.
Procedure and Implications of the New System
Registration fees will remain consistent with those applicable in Punjab, ensuring no additional financial burden on vehicle owners. The biometric verification process is designed to enhance transparency and prevent fraudulent activities.
Post-registration, a new Punjab number specific to the concerned city will be allocated, and the old registration number will be officially cancelled. A formal letter regarding the new number will also be dispatched to the Excise Office of the relevant province to maintain inter-provincial coordination.
This initiative reflects Punjab's commitment to modernizing its vehicle registration system, improving regulatory compliance, and facilitating smoother transitions for residents moving between provinces.
