The district administration of Lahore has officially inaugurated a major public safety initiative in connection with the upcoming "Safe Basant" festival. This special campaign focuses on installing safety rods on motorcycles through road safety camps established across the city, aiming to prevent accidents and ensure citizen protection during the cultural celebrations.

The campaign was formally launched at Azadi Chowk on Yadgar Road, where Commissioner Marryam Khan, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, and Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Dr. Athar Waheed inaugurated the first road safety camp. Officials personally reviewed the installation process and inspected camp arrangements, demonstrating the administration's commitment to this safety drive.
CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana issued a stern warning regarding Basant regulations, stating that strict legal action would be taken against anyone violating Basant laws. While encouraging citizens to enjoy the festival, he emphasized that Lahore Police would not compromise on life safety or accident prevention under any circumstances.

CTO Dr. Athar Waheed revealed impressive operational statistics, noting that safety rods are being installed on 50,000 to 60,000 motorcycles daily through 100 road safety camps distributed throughout Lahore. He projected that more than one million safety rods would be installed on motorcycles before the festival concludes, representing a massive infrastructure effort to create safer road conditions.
Commissioner Marryam Khan elaborated on the campaign's broader context, explaining that this initiative specifically targets biker safety and security. She announced several key measures:
- A free ride service will operate throughout Lahore during Basant days
- No motorcycle will be permitted on Lahore roads without safety rods during the three-day festival

Commissioner Khan provided specific details about the "Safe Basant" festival schedule and regulations:
- The three-day festival will occur exclusively within Lahore district limits on February 6, 7, and 8, 2026
- Kite flying will be prohibited in the district before February 6, 2026
- Sale of kites and kite string will be permitted only from February 1 to February 8, 2026
- Kite-flying material manufacturing will be restricted to Lahore district only
- Only registered manufacturers, traders, and sellers may conduct business
- Strict action will follow any violations of Safe Basant dates and rules

Commissioner Lahore made a direct appeal to citizens, urging motorcycle riders to visit the road safety camps for free safety rod installations.
