PHC Issues New Seniority List After Justice Sattar's Transfer

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has unveiled an updated seniority list of its judges following the transfer of Justice Babar Sattar from the Islamabad High Court. The revised list was officially notified by the Registrar of the PHC after receiving approval from the court's Administrative Committee, in accordance with its decision dated May 1.

Key Highlights of the New Seniority List

According to the official notification, Chief Justice Syed Muhammad Atiq Shah retains his position as the senior-most judge of the PHC, while Justice Ijaz Anwar continues as the senior puisne judge. Justice Babar Sattar, who recently joined the Peshawar High Court through transfer, has been placed at the seventh position in the revised hierarchy.

Reason for Administrative Update

This administrative revision was necessitated by the arrival of Justice Sattar to properly establish the judicial hierarchy at the PHC. The transfer of Justice Sattar to the Peshawar High Court, along with the transfer of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani to the Lahore High Court and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz to the Sindh High Court, was approved by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan on April 28. The law ministry officially notified these transfers on April 29, despite facing criticism from various lawyers' bodies across the country.
